Abstract

Elements of this debate are already present in the second chorus of Sophocles’ *Antigone* (2001): And he taught himself the language and the ethereal ideas and the behaviors that bring order to cities, and how to dodge the darts of frost that make life outdoors difficult, and the darts brought by a troublesome storm—the man with solutions for everything! […] Yet, possessing—more than one can imagine—a certain cunning, which is what gives him his skill [tekné], he sometimes slips toward disaster, other times toward success. If he intertwines the laws of the earth and the justice of the gods while remaining faithful to the oath he has sworn (p. 9).
