Abstract

Since the ancient Greek city-states of the 7th century BC, the concept of democracy has resonated as an ideal form of government. Philosophical figures such as Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle already expressed their reservations. Socrates, through the Platonic dialogues, questioned collective wisdom, privileging knowledge over mere opinion. Plato, in The Republic, saw democracy as a system prone to disorder and tyranny due to its unlimited freedom, while Aristotle considered it a deviant form of government, where the interests of the majority prevailed over the common good.
