Abstract
Introduction. Educational centers may contribute to ventures that accelerate a country´s economic activity. This study described attributes, values, and characteristics of CEUTEC-UNITEC university entrepreneurs in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Methods. A descriptive study was conducted, with a convenience sample of 379 students. Students were selected according to their availability and whether they were part of entrepreneurship courses or courses with a high enrollment. The questionnaire included questions directed to entrepreneur characteristics and attributes, as well as barriers and influences during the entrepreneurship generation. The questionnaire was validated by a pilot test to five people and applied for 2 weeks in April 2015. Results. A high percentage reported an entrepreneurship spirit: responsible (91%), passionate and perseverant (88%) and autonomous (81%). Likewise, a low percentage of healthy self-esteem was reported by the students (7%). A total of 85% indicated that their career supported them to develop entrepreneurship skills, while entrepreneurship obstacles were reported: fear of risk (83%), lack of a plan (79%) and low economic resources (78%). The university influenced in a major way the student´s entrepreneurship in only 4% of the ventures. Conclusion. The university may encourage students in entrepreneurial processes, through technical support and training, to develop their self-esteem and entrepreneurial skills. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License.
