Abstract
Introduction. The functional restoration of the landscape provides a methodology that will serve as a tool to support the forestry sector in the monitoring of actions. The study aim was the determine the Sustainability Index for Landscape Restoration (ISP) in the area of influence of the Coyolito micro-watershed, San Ignacio, Francisco Morazán, Honduras. Methods. Eight indicators were analyzed to provide the situation on the effects of the restoration actions carried out in the study area. The reference level of 2023 Instituto de Conservación Forestal (ICF) was used to evaluate a time period with the capture and emission of CO2. The ICF follows the international references established by the 2006 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Results. The area had an ISP of 0.69 in a scale from 0 to 1. Opportunities were found to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the following processes and activities: (1) protection of natural resources and biodiversity, (2) inclusion and participation of the inhabitants in decision-making and community development, (3) improvement of the quality of life of the inhabitants and (4) diversification and strengthening of the local economy. Conclusion. The evaluation of the ISP in Coyolito micro-watershed shows evidence of the importance of adopting an integrated and collaborative approach to achieve sustainable and equitable development in the area.This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License.
