Abstract
In the world, waste management is a growing problem due to the growing population and consumer practices that have increased considerably in recent years. Local governments are responsible for waste management in municipalities and must allocate a percentage of investment for its management. The highest cost is assigned to collection, transportation and treatment of waste. 50% of the total volume of municipal solid waste in Honduras is generated by the cities of Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, El Progreso, La Ceiba and Choluteca. 3.7% of the municipalities have sanitary landfills for the final disposal and treatment of waste and only 60 of 298 municipalities have waste collection services. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License.
