The present review identified the situation of natural resources, as well as attention strategies of food security and environmental sustainability in Mexico between 1990-2020. Methods. An academic and institutional documentary research of public policies and programs was carried out respectively. Discussion. Information was found that described the availability and quality of natural resources, as well as various actions to meet the needs of natural resources and reduce the effects of the alteration of their quality and quantity, without specifying the areas served and pending areas, as well as the legal problems of the rural population. Conclusion. Studies are necessary by geographic region, climate, and natural resource situation, with the participation of the rural population, agricultural producers, indigenous people, educational institutions, and public policy operators to define strategies -by the requirement level and long term-. These studies need to consolidate the efforts developed that add to food security and, in parallel, to the sustainability of the biodiverse natural resources that guarantee the very life of Planet Earth.
