Abstract
Epilepsy is a worldwide health problem and it is highly prevalent in developing countries. In Mexico it is estimated that there are one to two million people with this condition. The Priority Program of Epilepsy in Mexico has several Centers for Comprehensive Care in Epilepsy (CAIE). CAIE 1 of the National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery "MVS" (NINN) will perform a collaborative project with Universidad Tecnológica Centroamericana en Honduras (UNITEC) to implement and to evaluate the functionality of telemedicine to provide medical care to patients with epilepsy and to connect with doctors who refere patients to the epilepsy clinic of CAIE 1 at INNN. Telemedicine can be a useful tool to decentralize medical care provision and to benefit both patients and doctors who refer patients to the epilepsy clinic at INNN, it will also favor medical education in epilepsy, optimize the time and quality of care for patients with epilepsy and could also decreases the direct and indirect costs of epilepsy care. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License.
